Takradhara is a variant of Shirodhara in which buttermilk boiled with Amalaki (Indian gooseberry) and Musta is poured on the forehead in a continuous stream.
Buttermilk and Amalaki are cooling; Takradhara is chosen when Pitta and heat dominate, such as in scalp psoriasis or stress with heat symptoms.
How Takradhara is done
- Doctor assessment.
- Medicated buttermilk prepared fresh.
- Steady stream on the forehead for 30–45 minutes.
- Head wiped and rest; avoid heat and spicy food.
Who Takradhara may suit
May suit scalp psoriasis, stress and insomnia with heat, high blood pressure (supportive), Pitta headaches and premature greying.
Precautions before Takradhara
- Not during cold, cough, or for people who get cold easily.
- Tell the doctor about any medicines you take, pregnancy, recent illness, high blood pressure, heart or kidney problems before the therapy. Do not stop any prescribed medicine on your own.
Takradhara in Varanasi at Aarogyam Shri Ayurveda
Takradhara at our Varanasi (Banaras) clinic is done by trained therapists under the supervision of an Ayurveda doctor, who first checks your Prakriti, current health and reports. The doctor then decides the oils or medicines, the number of sittings and the diet to follow during the course.
