In Netra Tarpana, a ring of black-gram dough is built around each eye and filled with lukewarm medicated ghee such as Triphala ghrita. You open and close the eyes slowly while the ghee bathes them.
Tarpana means nourishment. It is used for eyes affected by dryness and Vata-Pitta, as from long screen hours.
How Netra Tarpana is done
- Eye examination and history.
- Face massage and mild steam.
- Dough rings fixed around the eyes; warm ghee poured in.
- Blinking slowly for 10–15 minutes.
- Ghee drained, eyes cleaned; avoid screens and bright light for the rest of the day.
