Udvartana uses dry powders such as Triphala, Kolakulathadi or Yava churna, rubbed firmly against the direction of hair growth. It is one of the few Ayurvedic massages done without oil.
Udvartana reduces Kapha and Meda (fat), and is advised in obesity and heaviness along with diet, exercise and medicines.
How Udvartana is done
- Weight, measurements and diet history recorded.
- Warm herbal powder massaged upward with firm strokes.
- Herbal steam (Swedana).
- Warm bath after rest; diet and exercise plan followed at home.
Who Udvartana may suit
May suit overweight and obesity, cellulite, sluggish metabolism, heaviness, PCOS with weight gain and Kapha imbalance.
Precautions before Udvartana
- Not on sensitive or broken skin, during pregnancy, or for very thin and dry body types.
- Tell the doctor about any medicines you take, pregnancy, recent illness, high blood pressure, heart or kidney problems before the therapy. Do not stop any prescribed medicine on your own.
Udvartana in Varanasi at Aarogyam Shri Ayurveda
Udvartana at our Varanasi (Banaras) clinic is done by trained therapists under the supervision of an Ayurveda doctor, who first checks your Prakriti, current health and reports. The doctor then decides the oils or medicines, the number of sittings and the diet to follow during the course.
