Pizhichil, called the 'king of therapies' in Kerala Ayurveda, combines Snehana and Swedana. Two to four therapists squeeze warm medicated oil from cloth over the whole body in a steady rhythm while massaging gently.
It is a deep Vata-balancing therapy, giving oil and warmth to the whole body at once.
How Pizhichil is done
- Doctor assessment and choice of oil.
- Head oiling and a cotton band on the forehead.
- Warm oil poured in streams and massaged in seven positions.
- Oil temperature kept steady throughout.
- Rest and warm bath.
Who Pizhichil may suit
Pizhichil may suit rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, muscle wasting, post-stroke rehabilitation (supportive), chronic body pain and Vata disorders.
Precautions before Pizhichil
- Not during fever, indigestion or obesity with heavy Kapha.
- Tell the doctor about any medicines you take, pregnancy, recent illness, high blood pressure, heart or kidney problems before the therapy. Do not stop any prescribed medicine on your own.
Pizhichil in Varanasi at Aarogyam Shri Ayurveda
Pizhichil at our Varanasi (Banaras) clinic is done by trained therapists under the supervision of an Ayurveda doctor, who first checks your Prakriti, current health and reports. The doctor then decides the oils or medicines, the number of sittings and the diet to follow during the course.
