Fistula and Kshar Sutra consultation in Varanasi
An anal fistula, called Bhagandar in Ayurveda, is an abnormal tract between the anal canal and nearby skin. Repeated discharge, a small opening, swelling or a recurring boil should be examined. It is different from piles and a fissure.
Assessment before treatment
The clinician reviews previous abscesses, surgery, bowel symptoms and existing illnesses. Examination and, in complex cases, imaging such as an MRI fistulogram may be needed to understand the tract and its relation to bowel-control muscles. An abscess may need urgent drainage.
What is Kshar Sutra?
Kshar Sutra uses a medicated thread placed through a suitable fistula tract by a trained clinician, with planned reviews and thread changes. It is an Ayurvedic para-surgical treatment, not simply a medicine or a home remedy. Ask about anaesthesia, discomfort, dressings, visit frequency and total cost.
The safest option depends on the tract and underlying cause. A colorectal opinion may be needed; alternatives include fistulotomy, seton-based care and other procedures. No method can promise zero recurrence or no risk to bowel control. Do not delay necessary surgery while trying medicines alone.
Aftercare and urgent symptoms
Follow the clinician’s hygiene, dressing and bowel-care instructions. Fever, increasing swelling, severe pain, difficulty passing urine or feeling unwell need urgent assessment. Report new difficulty controlling stool or gas promptly.
