A fatty liver finding on an ultrasound or another report deserves an explanation, not panic or an instant detox purchase. Fat can build up in the liver for different reasons. Ask your clinician what the finding means for you, what further assessment is needed and how follow-up will be organised.
1. Bring the complete report
Carry previous scans, blood tests and medicine details. Discuss alcohol use honestly and mention supplements, even those bought without a prescription. Ask whether the clinician needs to assess other causes of liver disease or the degree of liver involvement.
2. Focus on a realistic health plan
Discuss suitable food, activity and weight management if relevant, as well as associated conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Choose achievable changes rather than extreme fasting. A plan should account for your work, mobility and other medical needs.
3. Be cautious about liver-cleanse claims
A product labelled liver support is not proof of effectiveness or safety. Some supplements can cause liver injury. Ask for evidence, ingredients and a monitoring plan before adding anything. Do not assume a traditional label means that liver tests are unnecessary.
4. Arrange review and know concerning symptoms
Confirm which tests will be repeated and when. Seek prompt medical assessment for jaundice, significant abdominal swelling or other marked deterioration. An Ayurveda consultation can discuss an individual routine, but it should not replace investigation or specialist care when needed.
Before your appointment
Write down your main concern and when it started.
Keep recent reports and all medicine or supplement names ready.
Ask what the next step is and when the plan will be reviewed.
