Flakes and an itchy scalp are often called dandruff, but other skin conditions can look similar. If symptoms persist or the scalp becomes sore, ask for an assessment. An oiling routine or a strong herbal mixture should not be used as a substitute for finding out what is happening.
1. Note the symptoms carefully
Describe flakes, redness, itching, soreness and any hair loss. Mention whether the problem affects eyebrows, ears or other areas too. Keep a list of shampoos and oils you have tried and how the scalp responded.
2. Avoid making irritation worse
Do not scratch aggressively or combine several harsh products. Ask about a suitable scalp-care routine and how long to try it before review. A product labelled natural may still contain fragrance or another ingredient that does not suit you.
3. Check the role of an oil or supplement
If considering Ayurveda, ask why a particular product is recommended and what evidence supports it. Do not assume that flakes mean nutritional deficiency or toxins. Bring ingredient labels and your medicine list to the consultation.
4. Arrange review for persistent changes
Marked redness, pain, discharge, patchy hair loss or symptoms that do not improve deserves medical attention. The next step may differ if the cause is dandruff, eczema or another condition. A useful plan explains the diagnosis, treatment duration and what would prompt reassessment.

Your questions, answered
Is every flaky scalp dandruff?
No. Several skin conditions can cause flaking, so persistent symptoms may need examination.
Should I apply more oil when the scalp is irritated?
Do not assume more oil will help. Ask about the cause and product suitability first.
